Swogun Sewing and Cutting Project

Dhapasi, Kathmandu , Nepal

In collaboration with MODE San Frontiers , Miss. Kerene and Miss. Helene

France .

Swogun's Second Sewing and Cutting Project started on 16th December 2004 [3 months Basic Course] for women who are economically deprived and want to gain work skills.

The main aim is to help these women to produce basic garments to a high standard. Consequently, they will be able to set up their own business themselves in the near future.

On 15/11/2004 , Miss. Helene & Miss. Karen, from MODE, France invested 1922.50 [Euro] to buy six normal sewing machines with accessories and also for paying trainers' salary for six months. In this course, 100 women participated from different parts of Nepal .

Similarly, around 900 [Euro] is being invested from Swogun Nepal [ Nepal based NGO] for more women to make trained and carry on the project for six months and more if needed.

The number of women who want to be freely trained is increasing day by day but they fall below poverty line. So, they are not able to afford such activities. It isn't possible to train them all within six months because of our financial limitations.

Around 550 women have applied for Basic Sewing and Cutting course [for both phases 1 st & 2 nd ] in Swogun Nepal . But only around 100 women can take part in this course because of our limited number of machines and budget.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Miss. Helene and Miss. Karen, MODE, France for their kind financial cooperation. Swogun Nepal does believe that this project will be continued from our sole donors and others referred by them.

Lastly, anyone [Individuals/Organizations] who would like to help such women please contact us or donate directly.
Thank You.

[PROJECT REPORT]

Our sewing project successfully comes to end !

Report Submit by: Gokul Khadka
Three months -sewing and cutting project was our ongoing project, and it was designed for women who are economically deprived. Initially, it aimed to give opportunity for such women to learn how to make the clothes and how to design them. In the end, women can sell their hand-made clothes and get external income for the long run.

This project was started from 14th November 2004 and it successfully completed on the 15th of Feb. 2005, during course being taking place, there were nearly 150 women' participants, and 27 variety of clothes that women could make for their own and children.

We want to express our great thanks for Miss Helene Leroyer & Miss Karen Alletru, France who donated Euro1922 for buying six sewing machines and accessories in this project.

However, there were still number of women who could not participate in this course because of limited sewing machines and rooms. Also, there are number of women who are still seeking for the chance to participate in this project for the Basic course as well as for the advance course. We want to arrange the next course very soon. and at the same time, we are still seeking for donation to extend this project more widely. If you are interested in helping, please contact us about more details.

Thank you!
