   SWOGUN RELIEF FUND

Dear All,

"God cannot be everywhere, so he created mothers."

Mothers all across Nepal are in desperate need of help. Many are forced to abandon their infants on hospital beds and maternity homes because they are unable to afford the medical costs associated with childbirth.
There are no official bodies in Nepal that are significantly addressing this problem.

Swogun Relief Fund (SWORF) has been created in an attempt to assist mothers in need of maternity / medical care but who are unable to pay any medical charges.
We will not give the money from our relief fund directly to the maternity patients but will instead arrange to pay the hospital bills after they leave the hospital.

We are asking for a very small and simple donation of at least Rs.5 or 1 USD
Think about it in terms of forgoing one cup of tea-for a worthy cause!
Our mothers are our own earthly goddesses and we believe all society must help take care of them. So please help us let them return to their homes and families free of debt.

Any assistance and suggestions would be most delightfully welcomed!

Any amount will contribute to our cause, but if you have any questions, please telephone at: 4362505.
Or you can always email us at swogun@hons.com.np

Gratefully working hand in hand,

Thank you!
Swogun Nepal

MORE ON THE SWOGUN RELIEF FUND

Nepal is a country rich in a variety of cultures, landscapes, languages, castes, and religions. It has its own special identity in the world and we Nepalese are blessed with a distinctive, natural and cultural heritage.
Nepal is part of the high Himalayas, including Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world. It's also the birth place of Lord Gautama Buddha, highlighting our identity in the world community.

Nepal is a geographically challenging country and as many of you will know is politically unstable at present.
Particulalrly due to political instability Nepal has not been able to gain substantial momentum in progress and development. In the country, women are specifically falling behind from mainstream development. They have not been afforded the same opportunities to enjoy the happiness and pleasure of family-life because of illiteracy, social discrimination, lack of nutritious food, and poor health conditions. Many women and children die during childbirth every year due to lack of education and medical facilities. The responsibility lies with the rest of society to raise awareness and help to alleviate these problems.

Lack of healthcare providers and a poor financial situation leads to the premature loss of life of many women and children. These conditions result in a large number of children becoming orphans. Many mothers are compelled to flee the hospitals and are now leaving the babies in hospital beds because they are unable to pay the medical charges.

The most important problems to address concerning maternal and infant welfare are:

  • Lack of awareness within families depending on physical labour to support the family.
  • Lack of nutritious food and diet during pregnancy and childbirth.
  • Lack of necessary care during pregnancy due to limited finances.
  • Being compelled to abandon babies in the hospitals and maternity homes, failing to pay service charges.
  • Women are failing to supply materials needed during their delivery-stage.
  • No networking in hospitals regarding the problems and suffering of such women.

SWORF SCOPE

We project that in our target area of Kathmandu valley there are at least 30 to 40 women, daily, who currently need maternity help. Funds from this program will go towards helping this group of parturient women who are neglected in the maternity homes and government hospitals.
Swogun Relief Fund (SWORF) will cover costs for those who are unable to unable to pay themselves. To supply these funds, SWORF collects donations. These donations come from different organizations, institutions, and individuals to assist women withheld in government hospitals and maternity homes. Our goal is to extend the program national-wide.

A certain amount of the SWORF fund will also be used to aid women who have to go in for a major delivery operations. The treatment and care costs for mother and child will be borne from the fund for the necessary period.

SWORF OBJECTIVES

  • To provide assistance to women who feel compelled to abandon their newborn children.
  • To minimize the pitiable conditions for the 30 to 40 women who fall into this desperate situation every day.
  • To extend the program in government hospitals in coordination with maternity homes.
  • To request support from different institutions, organizations, and individuals around the world for the GLOBAL FUND.
  • To organize various culture and religious programs by Swogun Nepal/Swogun Relief Fund [SWORF] for global fundraising.
  • To provide necessary funds for needy women only on the recommendation of the administrating doctors.
  • Cash is not provided in financial assistance, only compensation to the health centers for charges for women incapable of paying.
  • To provide financial assistance as per need for major operations.
  • To manage networking for the sustainability of the program.
  • To establish counseling service centers in the premises of the hospitals/maternity homes.
  • To seek suggestions from the renowned personalities of different walks of life to run the programs effectively.
  • To confer "Life Membership" and letters of appreciation to those who donate Rs. Fifty Thousand and One.
  • To decorate the foreigners with "Life Membership" and a letter of appreciation who assist with Rs. 101 Thousand.

SUSTAINABILITY
For the continuation of SWORF, an 11 member fundraising committee will be formed by SWOGUN Nepal. Every maternity home will be included and will be extended nation- wide with the advice of the experts and respected gynecologists across the country.

The Global Fund, which will be the sole financial source to run the program, will be collected from national and international levels and from various sectors will be directly involved in the sustainability of the program.

FINANCIAL DETAILS
On average, women in maternity homes owe about 28 USD. There are many more women who need help than we can provide for. A reasonable starting goal is to help at least 5 women per day in the Kathmandu Valley which comes to a total of 150 women per month. Therefore, the expected grand expenditure estimated for a whole year is 50,400 USD.

We believe that a good beginning leads us to a good destination and that a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step.
So, with your support, open mind, and a big heart for this great endeavor, please help us to help our mothers so that this program can be a great success!

Thank You!
